Hunger Moon

The natives called February the hunger moon for good reason, food is scarce. If you’re not a bear or a squirrel these lean times mean you might have to travel to find food. That’s why the hogs showed up. They have already gleaned the adjoining mountains and now looking for new country to destroy. The 2nd most invasive species. They root, plow, and eat everything in their wake. As soon as I see a pig track I spring into action, putting out feed to draw them to their demise. It doesn’t take long in the hunger moon for them to find it and in a couple days they are running from the thicket to the feed a good hour before dark. Lucky for me I know a couple eager younguns more than happy to sit and wait for a chance to draw their bows. They are young but I don’t have to worry about some pigs dying, they are already proficient in taking game with arrows.

When the shooting is over two large sows and two little pigs have been killed. None have went more than 50 yds from where they were shot. After some atta boys and the recovery we start devising a plan to finish the job. Only have a few more days of the hunger moon.
