January 2024 Coleman’s Longbow Buck
There I was, full draw on my first small whitetail buck with my longbow about to let an arrow fly with only a few minutes left of light.
Prior to this I had killed my first deer with a compound bow at 9 years old, killing lots of more deer as I got older, when I was 12 I killed my first black bear with a bow. All of the deer and bear I had killed with my bow had been with a Broadhead that my dad had designed but unfortunately went out of business. But, I had interest in “Badger Broadheads,” so we started the broadhead company back up. My dad had shot a longbow for almost his whole life. So, when I turned 15 I had to try it. I practiced with my dad all summer shooting pretty consistent waiting on deer season. After what seemed like forever, archery season finally rolled by and I was pumped to hunt with a longbow for my first time. After many hunts and many close calls, it finally happened.
The small buck was walking right towards me as I was at full draw, about to pass out because I was so excited. The buck strolled into 12 yards. I had been holding my draw for a while and my arm was starting to give up. The buck turned just enough to give me a shot. I picked out where I wanted to hit it and released my arrow. It was amazing watching the arrow go right where I was looking. I climbed down my stand and started tracking. After a little while my dad and I found it. I was over the moon to take my first deer with a longbow and a broadhead that I helped design with my dad and another buddy.
